Space for the Spirit
Some of my favorite workdays are the days I’m able to visit our Catholic schools. I love recognizing a student’s delight when a concept ‘clicks,’ seeing the bond between older and younger students and hearing little voices singing Mass hymns.
Some of my favorite workdays are the days I’m able to visit our Catholic schools. I love recognizing a student’s delight when a concept ‘clicks,’ seeing the bond between older and younger students and hearing little voices singing Mass hymns.
On one recent visit, I witnessed an interaction that I’ve thought about many times since: an elementary student happily telling the principal that she was going to be baptized this spring.
That, in a nutshell, is what I think is so special about Catholic education: it intentionally creates space for the Holy Spirit to work. Students can study both the stars and the One who made them. In an environment that invites questions and wonder, it’s no surprise that some students sense the Lord’s invitation to come closer to him.
This invitation takes many forms in our schools. I welcome you to read our cover story on page 16, which shares St. Brigid Catholic School’s renewal through teaching liberal arts with a Catholic lens. On page 21, you’ll meet five Catholic school alumni who returned to the classroom as teachers.
Sharing the Faith is such a gift, whether we are sharing it with our families, those we serve in our work or those we meet while living out Christ’s mission throughout the world. On each page of this magazine, you’ll find ways God has moved– and is continuing to move– in the lives of his children.
