Finding the True, Good and Beautiful
Last year, Dr. Dan Osborn wrote a column entitled “Are you a T, a G or a B?” Essentially, the column asked if an individual is most moved by the True, the Good or the Beautiful. These transcendentals are attributes of God, who is infinite Truth, Goodness and Beauty. “We, as creatures made by God in his likeness and image, are uniquely destined to embrace the true, the good and the beautiful,” Dr. Osborn writes.

While each person is likely geared more towards one or another of these attributes, they each speak to our hearts and minds. I remember the first time I walked into the Cathedral Basilica of St. Louis in Missouri, which is entirely covered in breathtaking mosaics. Overwhelmed by the Beauty of the sacred art, I cried. I recall the first time I read Rome Sweet Home by Dr. Scott Hahn and it “clicked;” I realized that everything in Catholicism simply made sense and must be True. I am powerfully reminded of the Goodness of God every time I learn of how the faithful in the Diocese are ministering to those most in need.
During this magazine’s production, I’ve been thinking about how the True, Good and Beautiful are sought out by all of us. In this issue, you’ll see how three parishes are inviting people into a relationship of Christ through Beauty by renovating their sanctuary and gathering spaces, including accessibility updates (page 20). In our cover story, you’ll learn how a group of volunteers are sharing the Good through the St. Frances Xavier Mission Store, donating more than $360,000 to local charitable organizations (page 16). And the Truth? The Truth is the undercurrent of our Catholic Faith. Learn how you can encounter the Truth of the Gospel at Rescue Michigan (page 30).
I hope these stories touch your heart and encourage you to seek out the True, Good and Beautiful that surrounds us every day. Thank you for reading Great Lakes Bay Catholic.
To Jesus through Mary,
Danielle
