Seeing God at work
“God is doing something here and our work is to perceive it.”
“God is doing something here and our work is to perceive it.”
That’s what Sister Josephine Garrett sensed when the perpetual pilgrims (those who had journeyed with the Blessed Sacrament across the nation to Indianapolis) entered Lucas Oil Stadium at the opening of the National Eucharistic Congress.
This line resonated deeply with me as a Catholic communicator and storyteller. Sister Josephine was speaking specifically about the National Eucharistic Revival, but this truth stretches beyond Indianapolis. God is doing something amazing— and I believe our role here at Great Lakes Bay Catholic is to perceive and help others perceive it.
That is one of the great privileges of my role as editor: seeing how God works in the lives of the faithful across the Diocese of Saginaw, revealing his superabundant love and mercy and using this magazine as a platform to share those stories with all of you.
In this issue, I’m excited to share some of the beautiful things God is doing through the National Eucharistic Revival, including Father Nate Harburg’s experience of carrying our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament in the pilgrimage (see page 14) and St. Hubert parishioner Loretta Kuhn’s encounter with God at the Congress (page 16). The Lord continues to speak to his people through his Word, as modern-day scribes note on page 24, and he calls men and women to serve as priests and religious. In my role with the Office of Catholic Schools, I see how the Holy Spirit is moving in our schools, strengthening the faith of students and giving them hearts of service.
Yes, God is doing something here in the U.S. Catholic Church and here in the Diocese of Saginaw. Our work is to perceive it and to “go tell it on the mountain.”
Thank you for reading Great Lakes Bay Catholic.
To Jesus through Mary,
Danielle
