Congratulations to our churches celebrating anniversaries

Holy Family | Our Lady Consolata Parish, Sebewaing | 50 years

  • The earliest concept Holy Family Parish in the Sebewaing/Unionville area was conceived in 1973, though the first Mass for Sebewaing was celebrated over a century earlier and Unionville’s first Mass was in 1939.
  • Holy Family was born after the mergers of several churches and missions in Tuscola County, including St. Joseph (Unionville), Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary (Sebewaing) and St. Jude Thaddeus Mission (Akron/Fairgrove Township) in 1974.
  • The current church was built and dedicated in 1975, and the parish hall was added in 1993.

St. Christopher | St. Francis de Sales Parish, Bridgeport | 75 years

  • Bishop Stephen Woznicki authorized the establishment of St. Christopher Parish on Oct. 11, 1950, and Mass was celebrated in the Bridgeport Township Hall for the first 14 months.
  • The Blue Moon Dance Hall was transformed into a church and hall, which seated roughly 350, after a previously donated tract of land was deemed unsuitable. That site was returned to its owner.

  • The Blessing of the Bells took place on June 7, 1963, followed by the official dedication of the permanent church on August 15. At that time, it was the largest parish in the Diocese of Saginaw with 1,130 families.

  • A temporary convent was built in Aug. 1952, just in time for the arrival of seven Sisters from the Dominican Motherhouse in Adrian, Michigan. Construction began for a more permanent convent in 1959, which was dedicated on Dec. 13.
  • The current church was dedicated on July 10, 1996, at which time there were approximately 1,600 families.
