350th anniversary of first masses in the region
On Sept. 14, faithful gathered for Mass near the Tridge in Midland to celebrate the 350th anniversary of Father Henri Nouvel offering one of the first Masses in the interior of Lower Michigan. The 1675 Mass took place at the forks of the Tittabawassee and Chippewa Rivers, Midland.
As it was also the Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross. In his homily, Bishop Gruss shared how every cross is a place of union with Jesus. For the disciple, every cross which the Lord gives us and allows us to carry is to be seen as a gift. During the Mass, a painting of Father Nouvel was displayed. The painting by Al Romo is one of a set of four depicting each season.
