While each event had its own unique atmosphere—from friendly competition on the golf course to an elegant evening of fellowship and celebration—they shared a common purpose: investing in the education and formation of the men who are discerning God's call to the priesthood.

That investment is already bearing fruit.

This fall, the Diocese of Saginaw welcomes five new seminarians, bringing the total number of men in formation to nine. Their journeys are supported by the prayers, encouragement and generosity of Catholics throughout our 11-county diocese.

During his remarks at the banquet, Bishop Robert Gruss reminded those in attendance that the first place a vocation is nurtured is not in a seminary, but in the home.

He encouraged families to create a culture where young people are open to listening for God's voice and are supported when they begin to discern His call. Every home, he said, has the potential to become fertile ground for future priests, religious sisters, deacons and faithful lay disciples. Even in the case where seminarians discern out of the priesthood, he said, the time in seminary is not wasted. These men make great husbands, fathers and church members.

The tremendous response to both sold-out events reflects more than generous financial support. It is a visible sign of a diocesan family that believes in the future of the Church and recognizes the vital role our priests play in serving generations to come.

Bishop Gruss and the Diocese of Saginaw is deeply grateful for all the support over these two glorious days. Together, we continue to answer Christ's call by investing in those who are preparing to answer theirs.
