God's promise to us: Bishop Gruss' reflection for week two of the season of Advent

This week we want to take a look at our second messenger, John the Baptist. When John the Baptist came on the scene, it had been 400 years since the last prophet, the Prophet Malachi. Therefore, the voice of the prophets had been silent for a long time.

The ministry of St. John the Baptist points to the Eucharist, particularly Jesus’ baptism. In that moment, God the Father pronounced Jesus as his beloved Son, and John pronounces him, “the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world,” words we use in every Mass.
