Congratulations to our churches celebrating 150th anniversaries

 

 

St. Boniface

All Saints Parish, Bay City

  • St. Boniface was founded in 1874 for the ethnic German population of Bay City.
  • A combined church, school and rectory was built at McKinley and Birney streets and Father Presser served as pastor its first year and  its first baptism was recorded on May 1, 1875.
  • The cornerstone of the present Gothic church was laid on Oct. 11, 1896, and the church was dedicated on June 4, 1899, under the care of missionary priest Father John G. Wyss, whose care of St. Boniface lasted over 54 years.

St. Stanislaus Kostka

Our Lady of Czestochowa, Bay City

  • The first wooden church was dedicated on Dec. 13, 1874 and Father Casimir Rochowski was the first pastor, serving from 1875-1876.
  • Construction on the present church building began in 1890 and was completed in July 1892.
  • The cornerstone for a new St. Stanislaus School was blessed on Oct. 16, 1910, by Bishop Paul Rhode, the first United States Catholic Bishop of Polish descent.

St. Henry

Our Lady of Hope, Rosebush

  • The first Mass was celebrated in 1870 by Father Reinhard Van Der Heyden.
  • The Catholic mission at Vernon began with the celebration of a home Mass by Father Richard Sweeny on Oct. 15, 1874.
  • The decision to build a church was made in March 1882 and took five years to complete. Bishop Henry Richter dedicated the church in 1887 for his patron, St. Henry the Emperor.

St. Columbkille

Good Shepherd Parish, Sheridan Corners

  • In 1861, Father Peter Kluck celebrated Mass in a log house.
  • The first church was built in 1874, and in 1879, St. Columbkille was made a mission to St. Agatha in Gagetown.
  • The present church was built and dedicated in 1898 under Father Clement Krebs.
  • In 1910, St. Columbkille was given parish status with the first resident pastor, Father Christopher Dolan.
